200 ans de machine à vapeur : Invitation à visiter le musée de Crofton

Crofton Beam Engines : les 200 ans de la machine Boulton et Watt : invitation...

La plus ancienne machine à vapeur du monde encore en état de marche fonctionne !

Greetings from Crofton

I am chairman of Crofton Beam Engines UK.

This year we are celebrating 200 years of the operation of our 1812 Boulton and Watt Beam engine.

Along with an 1846 Harvey engine this engine pumps water 40ft up to the summit of the Kennet & Avon canal opened in 1810.

As such the Boulton & Watt engine is the oldest beam engine in the world still able to do its original job in its original location.

To celebrate this bicentenary we are holding additional steamings this year - details can be found on our website.

The reason for this email is to extend an invitation to any of your members who may be in the UK this year to visit us.

If they make themselves known when visiting Crofton we will endeavour to give them a personal guided tour.

With kind regards

Jon Willis Chairman - Crofton Beam Engines
